How a Kala Kari piece is made
No machines rush it. Every piece passes through skilled hands, one patient step at a time.
-
01
Drawn
Motifs are sketched by hand — paisleys, florals and jaalis drawn from centuries-old patterns.
-
02
Carved & traced
For block print, the design is carved into wooden blocks; for Chikankari, it is printed onto the fabric to guide the needle.
-
03
Printed & stitched
Artisans press each block by hand or stitch each motif thread by thread — so no two pieces are exactly alike.
-

Finished in small batches
Every piece is washed, checked and finished in small batches before it reaches you.
From the artisan's courtyard to your wardrobe.
Every Kala Kari piece begins in a craft cluster — a chikankari workshop in Lucknow, a block-printing table in Jaipur, a patchwork loom in Kutch. We work directly with the makers, in small batches, on natural fabric.
No mass production. No synthetic shortcuts. Just tradition, beautifully worn.
