The most common worry when buying a kurti online is the size. Sizes vary from brand to brand, so the "L" you wear elsewhere may not be our L. The good news: with a measuring tape and five minutes, you can choose with confidence.
What you need
- A soft measuring tape (a tailor's tape)
- A mirror, or someone to help
- Light clothing, so the numbers are accurate
How to measure yourself
Stand straight and relaxed. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight: you should be able to slip a finger under it.
- Bust: around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
- Waist: around your natural waistline, the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above the belly button.
- Hip: around the fullest part of your hips.
- Shoulder: across your back, from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other.
Write the numbers down in inches. Our charts are in inches, with centimetres alongside.
Read the size chart
Our charts list body measurements, so compare them directly with your own numbers. As a quick guide:
| Size | Bust | Waist | Shoulder |
|---|---|---|---|
| M | 36 in | 30 in | 14 in |
| L | 38 in | 32 in | 14.5 in |
| XL | 40 in | 34 in | 15 in |
| 2XL | 42 in | 36 in | 15.5 in |
| 3XL | 44 in | 38 in | 16 in |
Every product page has its own size chart, including the hip measurement and the length. If a product's chart is different from this table, follow the product chart.
Bust is the number that matters most
For kurtis and kurta sets, choose your size by bust first. The bust and shoulders decide how a kurti sits; the waist and hip have more room, especially in flared and A-line styles. For straight-cut kurtas, also check the hip so the side slits fall neatly.
Between two sizes?
Choose the larger size. Our cotton and mul cotton kurtis are designed with an easy, relaxed fit for breathability, and a slightly roomier kurti looks better and lasts longer than one that pulls across the bust.
Check the length too
- Long kurtis: about 46 in (117 cm), usually falling below the knee.
- Kurtas in suit sets: about 44–46 in (112–117 cm).
- Pants: about 38 in (97 cm) with an elasticated waist, so the waist is forgiving.
To picture the length, measure from the top of your shoulder down to where you want the kurti to end and compare it with the length on the product page. Short kurtis and tunics are hip-length or a little longer.
Allow for handmade
Each piece is cut and finished by hand, so measurements can vary by about half an inch (1 cm). That is normal for handcrafted clothing.
